City Manager Susan Luftus

San Mateo Area 2011 — the City

Mayor Jack Matthews We are situated at the crossroads of three major freeways which provide a link with San Francisco to the north, San Jose to the south, Half Moon Bay to the west and the East Bay to the east. Additionally, San Mateo's proximity to both the San Francisco and San Jose Airports provides convenient air transportation.

San Mateo is very proud of its great neighborhoods and schools, outstanding libraries and parks and some of the best shopping and restaurants on the Peninsula.

A key goal of this community is maintenance of our quality of life and the City's strategic business plan for economic development is designed to achieve this goal. The City's growth is carefully planned by our elected officials and the many citizen volunteers who serve on our advisory boards and commissions.

San Mateo is very proud of its great neighborhoods and schools, outstanding libraries and parks and some of the best shopping and restaurants on the Peninsula.

Downtown San Mateo offers a variety of exciting opportunities for shopping, dinning and entertainment. In addition to Downtown San Mateo, there are a number of neighborhood serving commercial districts such as 25th, 37th, 42nd and 43rd Avenues, Laurelwood, Crystal Springs, Third and Norfolk and El Camino Real. Hillsdale Shopping Center and Bridgepointe are two of the County's largest regional shopping centers.

San Mateo continues to excel in the development of housing and housing opportunities, many new housing developments providing affordable housing for low to moderate income individuals. Housing programs are also available for first time buyers living or working in San Mateo. We pay special attention to encourage development that bolsters the economy and maintains the quality of life expected by businesses and residents alike.

I hope this publication will help you get to know San Mateo and what we have to offer. We are proud of our City, and we want to share it with you.

Jack Matthews
Mayor of San Mateo
