A Message From the Chairman

I am so honored and grateful to have the opportunity to assist Cheryl in continuing the success of our Chamber under her inspirational leadership.

75 years ago, on June 19th 1939 - 9 prominent San Mateo businessmen from diverse industries (a banker, a newspaper man, a hardware store owner, the postmaster, a manager at PG&E) first formed the non-profit corporation known as the San Mateo Chamber of Commerce.

In 2015 our Chamber is 800 members strong. In January alone we added 26 new members. We are the fourth largest Chamber of Commerce on the Peninsula. And we have a lofty goal of reaching 1000 members this year.

We are investing in new state of art chamber software that will be available to all our members to promote their brand and let the community know about their goods and services.
Our Chamber sponsors 5 networking groups that brought in close to 700 leads and nearly $600,000 in closed business in 2014.

Our Chamber also hosts after hours networking events on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month. In 2014 events were hosted at the Hillbarn Theatre, Ah Sam Florist, Paul Michael’s Restaurant and Skylawn Memorial Park to name a few.

We sponsor the annual Business Awards Dinner every February, Bowling for Business in May, The Multi Chamber Expo in August and the Bacon & Brew Festival in Central Park in October. A lobster feed is also in the works.

Our Leadership program is in its 24th year with over 600 Alumni, many of whom hold leadership roles in the city and county – private and public sectors.

Economic development and public policy continues to be an important part of the Chamber’s mission to “promote the civic, commercial and industrial interests, resources and welfare of the city of San Mateo and vicinity.”

Our Chamber provides weekly educational programs that include the Friday Speaker Series at the Fish Market, Toastmasters as well as one on one business mentoring services.

YOU can help grow the Chamber this year by encouraging a supplier or retailer you patronize to join the Chamber, you can sponsor an event, you can join a networking group, you can host an after-hours event to name a few. With ALL our support, OUR Chamber will continue its upward direction - contributing to a stronger and more prosperous San Mateo.

Cheryl Angeles - President/CEO of San Mateo Area Chamber

Cheryl Angeles has joined the San Mateo Chamber of Commerce as its president and CEO.   Angeles brings to the position more than 25 years of experience in local real estate, property management, and storage industries as well as active business and community involvement in San Mateo County.

Angeles has held management positions at Capital Builders, Public Storage, SKS Management, and Blickman Turkus in a variety of functions, including marketing, sales, and human resources. She holds a certificate in Human Resources Management from Notre Dame de Namur University in Belmont, California.

During her years of public service, Angeles was recognized by the Redwood City Chamber as Ambassador of the Year and Person of the Year and awarded the Sequoia Award for Outstanding Business as well as the Athena Businesswoman of the Year. In her role as the co-chair of the Redwood City Library Foundation Board from 2007 to 2011, she was instrumental in raising $1.9 million for Redwood City librarires.

Angeles currently serves as the executive director of the Miss Redwood City/San Mateo County Scholarship Pageant and secretary (past president and vice president) of Soroptimist International by the Bay. Angeles is a native Californian and enjoys spending time wih her daughter, who lives in San Francisco.
