Chair of the Board
I'm excited to be serving as Chair of the San Mateo Area Chamber of Commerce during 2011.
Our Chamber has been affected by the downturn in the economy just like every other business so our focus in 2011 is to retain and grow membership. Our Board of Directors is open to your ideas so please feel free to share your thoughts with myself or Linda.
The Chamber and The EDGE will continue promoting economic development in the San Mateo area.
The more businesses we have in San Mateo, the more they contribute to the City of San Mateo’s tax base to provide the Police, Fire, Library, Parks and Rec, and other City services that we all want and need.
That said, our businesses enhance the quality of life for everyone in San Mateo. Our businesses employees' spend money at restaurants and on other services here in San Mateo. The Chamber continually promotes our “Live, Work, Shop San Mateo” campaign so please support our Chamber members.
Thank you to the Borel Estate Company, City of San Mateo, Franklin Templeton, Glenborough, Kaiser Permanente and Mills Peninsula Health Services for your financial support of The EDGE.
I’m thrilled that the Chamber is exploring the addition of a very high profile event to our line up of events -- bringing “Art in Central Park West” to San Mateo. We had hoped to bring this exciting venue to downtown San Mateo on Sept 9 – 11, 2011, but need to push this high profile event out to Sept 2012 so that we can put on a very successful event that everyone gets behind. We know there is a lot of excitement surrounding this event so I'm hopeful the wider San Mateo community becomes supportive so we can move forward in September 2012.
In the meantime, we hope you'll become involved (if you aren't already!) in our signature events and Chamber Committees:
| EVENTS |
San Mateo Business Awards, San Mateo County Business Expo,
A Taste of San Mateo, Good Morning San Mateo, and Chamber Mixers |
| |
| COMMITTEES |
Membership, Development/Public Policy, Ambassadors,
Business Expo, and A Taste of San Mateo |
If you would like to become involved in any of these events or our Chamber Committees, or would like to participate in anyway, please let myself or Linda know.
Thank you to our Chairman’s Circle members:
Borel Estate
Concar Enterprises
Hillsdale Shopping Center
Kaiser Permanente
Mills Peninsula Health Services

The more successful our Chamber members are, the more they contribute to the City’s tax base and give back to our wonderful community so please support all of our Chamber members.
Thank you, and I look forward to a successful 2011!

Because of the San Mateo Area Chamber of Commerce
…there is an office to respond to the thousands of inquiries about
our community and our business — your business!
…there are forums wherein the business community exchanges
views and positions, and a voice to express those views and
positions to other agencies.
…there are community promotion efforts to encourage purchasing
which leads to sales tax dollars for our government entities.
…there are meetings set up with city, county, and legislative groups
so that the business community can maintain personal contact.
…there is a political voice to keep our elected representatives aware
of the business community feelings on legislative actions and needs.
